Plot :
Badrinath Ki Dulhania, latest in the franchise that started with Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania in the year 2014 and this time it has goes deep North as Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt play Badrinath Bansal and Vaidehi Trivedi hailing from Northern part of our country. The film intends to be a love-story from the word go, unlike the original film or the prequel where we saw the love taking lots of time to blossom between the two. The film simply relies on small town humor and it works just fine for the film. Despite setting the story in Jhansi, it has a similar tone unlike seen in the prequel Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania which was set in Delhi.
Badrinath Ki Dulhania Review
The sparkling chemistry between the lead characters played by Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt takes the story forward. Both, Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt, are experimenting with their roles. If Varun Dhawan went down a dark alley in Badlapur, Alia played a migrant worker in Udta Punjab, probably her most accomplished role till date. Out of the two, Alia definitely has an edge as she is trying to apply herself in film with diverse themes. All thanks to her out of the box films like Highway, Dear Zindagi and Kapoor And Sons, she has come a long way since her debut film in 2012 called Student Of The Year, which also was K Jo’s venture.
Probably it was her Udta Punjab character that gave the director Shashank Khaitan the confidence to cast her in a North Indian girl’s role. She has got the accent right and shows self-control in emotional scenes. Also, don’t forget her camaraderie with Varun Dhawan (Thanks to her debut movie), which is far very much visible as they look very much comfortable together, especially in a number of songs seen in the sequel. In a sense, the director is able to embark with a right potent blend in the film, which gives a decent release in Holi.
Badrinath Ki Dulhania Review – The Last Word
What stands out is the good understanding of the director about the comic elements found in a light-breezy romance. He is smart enough to keep breaking the monotony with situational comedy like Badrinath Ki Dulhania and interestingly one can even find the flawed dialect of Varun Dhawan in the film. So far, it may looks like a film that can gel well with the festive mood around Holi and emerge victorious at the box office and hence it deserves a decent rating for sure, which is not less than 3.5.
