Farrukh Fateh Ali Khan is one talent that got overshadowed by the powerful vocal abilities of his elder brother Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. Farrukh belonged to the Family of Qawwali singers in Lahore and was a crucial part of the Qawwali party that performed at international concerts. His son, Rahat Fateh Ali Khan is presently a popular singer in Bollywood.

Farrukh Fateh Ali Khan was born on 25 December 1952. Inspired by his family tradition of Qawwali singing, he began training at an early age. When his elder brother Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan became a well known singer of Qawwali in Asia and abroad, he was his most trusted accompanist. His son Rahat was chosen by Nusrat as his special disciple and he gave him training for the skill. Whereas it is known that Farrukh rendered himself at the Harmonium. He was noticed to be extraordinarily skilled at playing the instrument and was totally dedicated to his profession. His compositions were admired by one and all. The masters of music hailed him as the “ Shahensha” of Harmonium. Interestingly, many of the music compositions that Nusrat performed on stage and released in albums were composed by Farrukh. These compositions are both officially and unofficially credited to Farrukh.

When the Doyen of Qawwali Music , Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan , passed away , the Qawwali party was in the shadows of the sorrow. At such a time, Farrukh stepped forward to become the guiding force for the party which was world renowned. Rahat Fateh Ali Khan became the vocalist and his father Farrukh still remained in oblivion as the harmonist. Farrukh ‘s contribution to the domain of Qawwali is remarkable for he was also blessed with heavenly musical abilities as was his brother. The reason because he did not become such a celebrity as his brother was that he was not the vocalist who remains the star performer of the show. The talented musician breathed his last on 9 September 2003.

Few of the famous compositions by Farrukh are Sukh Mahi Naal Layi Gaya, Wahi Khuda Hain, Rakh Baba, Sab Vird Karo Allah Allah, Jia Lageyna Moura, Yaad-E- Nabi Gulshan Mehka, Data Saheb De Daware, Manqabat in Raga Bhairavi, Song in Raga Bilawal and many more. Like his brother he has also worked with western composers in albums like Sea Of Vapours, The Game, This Time Will Never Come Again to name a few.
