Grammy and Oscar-Winner AR Rahman’s “Headhunting to Beatboxing” to Premiere at IFFM 2024

Academy and Grammy Award-winning composer AR Rahman’s documentary, “Headhunting to Beatboxing,” directed by Rohit Gupta, is scheduled to have its world premiere at the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM) 2024 in Australia, following the exciting unveiling of its first look at the 77th Cannes Film Festival. The announcement has sparked significant anticipation for this highly awaited documentary.The film delves into the captivating journey of rhythm and sound in Nagaland, tracing the evolution of music across cultures, tribes, and generations. From the ancient traditions of headhunting tribes to the musical renaissance in Nagaland, the documentary offers an immersive and enlightening musical anthropological odyssey.
AR Rahman expressed his thoughts on the film’s premiere at the festival, stating, “The film is very special to us, as it sheds light on the beautiful state of Nagaland and highlights its rich cultural and musical history. Rohit and I are eagerly looking forward to the premiere and showcasing it to the audiences in Melbourne.”Directed by Rohit Gupta and produced by AR Rahman, “Headhunting to Beatboxing” will have its premiere at the festival, where it will also vie for the best documentary film award. The premiere will be attended by multiple award-winning composer AR Rahman and filmmaker Rohit Gupta.“We are honored to be selected in competition at IFFM. I believe the narrative holds global relevance, along with the incredible healing power of music.
The film has been meticulously crafted over 5 years, and I am excited to witness the audience’s reactions and for them to delve into the rich cultural and musical tapestry of Nagaland. Especially to hear a completely new sound coming from India,” said filmmaker Rohit Gupta.This film marks AR Rahman’s second significant venture into filmmaking as a producer, following his earlier production “99 Songs,” which premiered at the Busan International Film Festival. His vision for the project is rooted in a desire to celebrate the universal language of music and its transformative power to transcend boundaries.
