‘Happy Bhag Jayegi’ was the most exciting : Tarannum Malik

Tarannum Malik

Singer Tarannum Malik, whose recent song ‘Gabru Ready To Mingle Hai’ is climbing up the music charts, has also lent her voice for a Marathi film and a Punjabi single. About her early days in the industry, Tarannum says, “I have been in the music industry since the past 12 years. I have really seen the ups and downs of the industry. Initially it was difficult during the struggling period. But I want to thank god and Anand Raj Anand sir who gave me my break in ‘Chahat Ek Nasha’ in 2005’.

She then worked with popular music composers in popular film albums in Shankar Ehsaan Loy in ‘Bhaag Milkha Bhaag’, Ram Sampath in ‘Fukrey’, ‘Ekkees Toppon Ki Salaami, and Sohail Sen in ‘Ek Tha Tiger’, ‘What’s Your Raashee’. She now wishes to work with A. R. Rahman, Vishal Shekhar, Salim Sulaiman and Pritam as well.About her recent hit ‘Gabru Ready To Mingle Hai’, which is becoming popular, she said, “Happy Bhag Jayegi was the most exciting work because I have recorded this song just 20 days before its release.

So, this was a quick release and Sohail is really a talented music director of new generation. It is such a happy song.”She is also showcasing her versatility, having sung a Marathi song in the film ‘Taleem’ and a Punjabi single ‘La Layee Mundri’,  a tribute to famous Punjabi singer Ranjit Kaur. About the ‘Taleem’ song, she said, “I’m thankful to Praful (Karlekar) , who is the music director of ‘Taleem’, he helped me a lot and also Mandar (Cholkar), the lyricist of the album. They are very good friends of mine since 12 years. From them I got to know how to pronounce Marathi words properly, they told me about the situation, and then I delivered myself.”

About  ‘La Layee Mundri’, she said, “I have become pretty popular in Punjab because of a lot of my recent songs. Since I am doing so many Punjabi movies, so I thought of coming with a Punjabi single.  This is a small dedication or a tribute to Bibi Ranjit Kaur, because she has been a legend. Today’s generation is not aware of who Bibi Ranjit Kaur is. So I wanted to not only reach her, but also wanted a hit number, which is already a hit,  through my voice.”
