Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania Movie Review

Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhaniya

The Karan Johan next movie –Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania is all set to hit the theaters on 11th July 2014. On the face of it, the movie appears to be fairly youthful with lead stars like Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt. The music is given by Sachin- Jigar, while the director of the film is a new man in this job called Shashank Khaitan. The movie is mostly shot in Mumbai and in Punjab. The character of Humpty Sharma has been not the role of any hero unlike any other movie but an ordinary guy with unordinary quest. The shooting apart from the two states have been even carried out at Delhi and other closer places of NCR.

Let’s talk about the plot of the movie. Kavya (Alia) is a chirpy and feisty kind of girl who hails from Ambala in Punjab. She plans a trip to Delhi for her wedding shopping wherein she meets a young guy based in Delhi called Humpty, who is a very carefree and jovial person. Humpty and his two best friends called Poplu and Shonty are being brought up in the Delhi university area wherein his father owns a bookstore. Thus this place is their favorite hangout, which they simply love like anything. Initially, Kavya goes unattained, which brings her closer and appealing to this guy. However, the guy being based in Delhi, he is known for not giving things so easily. Seeking his friends support, he finds about the whereabouts of the girl and thus in a series of things that transpire between the two, the duo are seen getting attracted to each other.

The more is the time they spare with each other, their love hate mockery is seen growing up, however, their chemistry sound very much apparent as the two are seen very much different yet similar to sort like human beings. Both of them are carefree, feisty and young, which make the two attract to each other. According to their plan, the moment her trips concludes she is back to her place – Ambala wherein she is very much clear about her father’s wish, who will never accept the newly found love for her. Though the two aren’t seen together for love still engrossed in these feelings and thus with his friends decides to get Kavya. Now it’s Humpty’s turn to convince Kavya’s family to give their consent. This is where the real story of the movie trails, which could sound a bit interesting to watch for.

Talking about the performances of the two, the lead stars in the movie both Varun and Alia seems to have become mature actors. Thanks to their back to back movies that have given them enough lessons for their acting skills. As far as the music and songs are concerned, they seems to be okay and have been getting positive reviews though not par like Kick certainly. However, the problem lies in the script, it seems to be a bit weak, wherein it is seen carrying the same old story in a new style and format. Hence the idea of having older wines in new bottle seems coming true in Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania. Yet the older the wine the tastier and authentic it becomes could prove out to be true to some extent provided if the audience is seen giving the green signal to the movie.

Down the line, you also have good natured comic characters from both Alia and Varun, which can hold the audience to a great extent. Also, as per the filmmakers and the lead characters, the movie is seen somewhere recalling the 18 year old timeless love story DDLJ, which makes them give a tribute to this blockbuster of 1995. Secondly, the comedy in the movie is very much acceptable, which makes it a complete family movie. As far as the direction is concerned, it seems okay especially when you talk about a debutant director like Shashank. Perhaps this film can be a good launch pad for this man as well. The trade analyst are expecting to see a collection of 8 to 10 crores at day one considering the fact that there is no movie hitting the theatres except Lai Bhaari, which is a regional one with limited crowd.
