Indian Celebrities Including Karan Johar, Ram Charan, Jr NTR, and More Extended Academy Membership Invitations

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has announced that it will be inviting 398 new members this year. This includes Indian celebrities such as Karan Johar, Ram Charan, Jr NTR, and Mani Ratnam. They will be joining international stars such as Taylor Swift, Ke Huy Qwan, Austin Butler, Abel Makkonen Tesfaye “The Weeknd”, and Stephanie Hsu.

The selection of new members is based on “professional qualifications, with an ongoing commitment to representation, inclusion and equity.” The Academy’s CEO Bill Kramer and Academy President Janet Yang said, “The Academy is proud to welcome these artists and professionals into our membership. They represent extraordinary global talent across cinematic disciplines, and have made a vital impact on the arts and sciences of motion pictures and on movie fans worldwide.”

The Academy now has more than 10,000 members, and only they get a chance to vote for Oscar winners. Next year’s Oscars will be held on March 10. In addition to the Indian celebrities mentioned above, other Indian members invited to join the Academy include:

Siddharth Roy Kapur, producer

Chaitanya Tamhane, director

MM Keeravani, composer

Chandrabose, lyricist

Shaunak Sen, filmmaker

KK Senthil Kumar, cinematographer

This year, several Indian celebrities made a mark at the Oscars. RRR’s song Naatu Naatu created history as it received the Oscar for Best Song, while Guneet Monga’s The Elephant Whisperers won Best Documentary Short.

The invitation of these Indian members to the Academy is a significant step in the organization’s efforts to diversify its membership. It is also a recognition of the talent and achievements of these individuals. It remains to be seen how these new members will impact the Academy and its decision-making process. However, their presence is sure to add a new perspective and diversity to the organization.
