Review

The movie ‘Ishq Vishk Rebound’ attempts to delve into the world of Gen Z and their struggles with love and rebound relationships. However, the film fails to capture the essence of genuine Gen Z experiences. Furthermore, the lack of authentic love between the characters is evident. Everything unfolds so rapidly that there is no opportunity for the audience to connect with any of them. Neither the breakup scenes nor the beginning of the rebound relationship between Raghav and Sanya evokes any emotional impact. It feels as though the actors are merely going through the motions as instructed.
The film sorely misses the delightful rom-com charm that the original ‘Ishq Vishk’, starring Shahid Kapoor, Amrita Rao, and Shehnaz Treasurywala, possessed. Despite its own flaws, the 2003 movie was still enjoyable, and its characters were intriguing enough to leave viewers curious about their romantic outcomes. In contrast, watching the 2024 version feels akin to witnessing a lackluster episode of Netflix’s ‘Mismatched’ on the big screen. The film lacks the conviction necessary to craft a solid love story and present compelling characters.Rohit Saraf’s portrayal of Raghav feels like an extension of his character Rishi Shekhawat from ‘Mismatched’.
While he is a talented actor who delivers a commendable performance, the script restricts him from showcasing his full potential. Rohit’s Raghav fails to convey strong emotions, even in scenes where he loses his cool with his friends. Furthermore, the constant breaking of the fourth wall does not provide an enjoyable cinematic experience.Pashmina Roshan takes on the role of Sanya, a hot-headed girl with daddy issues, as the film itself acknowledges.
Yet, her daddy issues lack authenticity, as do her feelings towards any of the male characters. The weak script hinders Pashmina’s ability to portray Sanya as a genuine and likable person. Jibraan Khan, who appears in a few scenes, seems capable of bringing depth to the story, but unfortunately, his potential remains untapped. Naila Grrewal’s talent is wasted in the film, while influencer Kusha Kapila receives more screen time despite her character’s lack of purpose.
Although Nipun Dharmadhikari had an interesting concept in mind, the execution falls short of convincing. In the last 30 minutes, the plot spirals into disarray. Although the film is titled ‘Ishq Vishk Rebound’, the absence of sweet young love and the rebound factor becomes evident, leaving the overall viewing experience less enjoyable. One redeeming aspect of the film is Sonu Nigam’s song ‘Ishq Vishk Pyaar Vyaar’, which brings a smile to one’s face. Adapted from the 2003 film, it serves as a delightful moment within an otherwise lackluster movie.
