Plot
The film Mardaani 2 is a story of a young Police Officer called Shivani Shivaji Roy played by Rani Mukherji who gears up against a young, and ferocious man found in raping and murdering young women. It is about a story of how Roy the SP of the city catches him amidst all thrill and mystery. The film is a sequel of 2014 Mardaani showcasing Rani in a senior SP of the city.
Review
Rani Mukerji’s Mardaani 2 gets into the theatres at the right when brutal rapists were killed in Hyderabad in a Police Encounter. When the whole nation is applauding the Hyderabad cops, we have a film releasing at the right time. The film deals with a fraught subject coming out at the best of times especially when India’s politically charged environment has witnessed six violent rapes making headlines in the media. We see a national debate on rape as the heinous acts seem to have snowballed in the recent past. The recent one was the rape and murder of a 26-year-old veterinary doctor in Hyderabad adding fuel to the fire.
The film somewhere has leveraged the unique opportunity the makers have got to steer a national conversation in the right direction. Talking about the film, the makers have left no stone unturned to showcase the situation with the right intensity. Although it was disliked by the politicians who still do not confess about the severity of this issue. Yet the sequel raises many important questions that have to be answered by the guardian of law and order.
Well talking about the performances, Rani Mukherji has done a wonderful job playing the Supritennt of Police of the city who takes things so personally when the cases of brutal rape and murder become the headline of her jurisdiction. She has played so well taking care of the norms and decorum that IPS officers practice. It clearly showcases the hard work she has done to play the character. The other elements like music, photography, screenplay, direction and editing elements went good thus boosting up the entertainment value of the film.
Mardaani 2 – The Last Word
The fil is not just about rape and justice but it allows steering the national narrative. At the same time, it does not opts to sensationalize crime and punishment. Its a worth watch, particularly for the fans of Rani and even if you are not his fan, catching up this film, would be a fair deal.
