Naanum Rowdy Dhaan Movie Review

Naanum Rowdydhaan movie review

Black Comedy with several Flaws in It making less difference for the audience

The South Indian Film Industry is no short of movies; hence one can find loads of film hitting the theatres every Friday. Unlike any other Friday, this week as well, we have one Tamil movie called Naanum Rowdy Dhaan, which means I am also a Rowdy. It is a action comedy movie, which is directed and written by Vignesh Shivan. It has Vijay Sethupathi and Nayantara in the lead roles, while it is produced by the actor Dhanush under the banner called Wunderbar Films. The music comes from Anirudh Ravichander. Interestingly, the film was made in 75 days (2.5 months) mostly has the locations from Chennai and Pondicherry. Let’s head for its review and check what Naanum Rowdy Dhaan is all about?

Story

The film has a character called Pandi played by Vijay Sethupathi. He is a song of a cop played by the lady Raadhika Sarathkumar who wants to be a rowdy, but lags behind in courage and guts. On the contrary, you can find Kadambari played by Nayantara who comes in the search of her father who is also a cop played by Azhagam Perumal. He has been missing after he goes for a mission to nab and kill the gang leader called Killi Valvan played by Parthiepan. She is keen to take revenge from the man Killi Valvan and thus is seen challenging Pandi to kill him. Now, what happens when a man who has no guts is hurled with such kind of challenge, whether he accepts or if he accepts how he accomplishes his job? Things are interesting to explore amidst loads of comedy and action in the film.

Script Analysis

The story of the film seems to have been loaded with lots of humour and comedy along with the elements of romance and love story. The story seems very much engaging though at the end (climax) things sound very much stretching. The first half of the film is more appealing and fast though at the one go you may find the songs coming out to be a great reliever breaking the pace and speed of the film and thus breaking the stress of watching an intense film. However, the second half turns sluggish and at the climax, it becomes really hard to digest and cope with the speed. Overall, the film has no subtle content but yes the comedy elements are too much to bear with.

Star Performances

Now talking about the star performance, Vijay Sethupathi has been incredible while playing this character. The story though is engaging, but at times one can find the loops and gaps in the way the actor has tried to connect himself with the character. Yet overall, the picture of the actors sounds excelling. The main villain in the movie can be called as he veteran rowdy, who is nothing but Parthiban for the audience; he is indeed terrific whenever you find him appearing over the silver screen. He has been incredible while playing the character of nuisance in the film. You would love him watching with different funny lines. On the other side, you can find RJ Balaji smart with his one liner before you can even blink, you can find Nayanthara with some emotional dialogues making a wonderful blend. Though on the other side, you may find hampering the goodness element of the movie. At times, you may even find the humour dying down while the core of the film is overcooked in the angst of Nayathara, which is seen passing by.

Music, Screenplay, Editing & Technicalities

Talking about the technicalities, the film seems to be okay in terms of screenplay, music and editing. The other elements like the technicalities can really make a great difference. However, it somewhere failed to boost up the technical values of the movie. Music is okay, yet cannot be called as par with the earlier movies hit in the theatres at various junctures. The screenplay, locations and editing at times seemed lagging behind in many ways, which make the film, hamper its entertainment value. Thanks to just two locations – Chennai and Pondicherry wherein the film was shot.

Naanum Rowdy Dhaan – Last Word

The movie had a good buzz in the media, thanks to the higher number of views it was able to draw when it released it trailer. Well, the film can be called as a ship without any radar considering the low star value of Vijay. Though Vijay tried his best to give a cool performance over the silver screen, yet it failed in a big way to entertain and attract audience far and wide. The audience with little option may catch up this black comedy but will they be entertained the fullest is a big question to pose. You better check the movie and decide your own, how much did you like it, as far as us, it’s a simple movie with not much of entertainment value, which doesn’t really deserve a better rating.

Rating – 2.5
