Rock On 2 Movie Review : Disappoints with dismal music and story

Rock On 2

Rock On 2 Review :

Rock On 2 was riding on high expectations since there was news since long time regarding the sequel. Well, after watching the film, I feel all the expectations are crashed down as the film simply disappoints. Of course it is obvious that we compare a sequel to its prequel and that gives us presumptions even before we watch the film. Yet, even without presumptions, Rock On 2 fails to touch your heat in nay department. The biggest fault is the music, of which lot was expected as the film itself is about music composers. What was expected from experienced performers like Farhan Akhtar and Arjun Rampal is a decent realistic performances but the lose script simply overshadows all the performances with hardly anything to appreciate.

The Plot and Story Line: Beginning it’s journey from where the prequel ended, Rock on 2 situates it’s story in the hilly state of Meghalaya and occasionally in Mumbai. The setting, though marvelous, is far from believable. We are told that the band Magik has once again fallen apart and Adi( Farhan Akhtar), Joe ( Arjun Rampal), KD ( Purab Kohil) are living away from each other indulging in their own business. KD is provoked to reunite the band as he listens to the song sung by Jiah (Shradha Kapoor). Deciding to assemble the band members once again, KD prepares a plan. Adi is by the time serving the destitute children in the state of Meghalaya to escape from his own crime- unknowingly provoking a young musician to commit suicide. Joe is now a reality show judge on a music show. Will KD’s attempt to bring the band together succeed? This question is answered as the story moves at its slow pace.

The Loopholes: The plot of the story is very unimpressive and drag. It is too much clichéd and the stories and characters add no element of interest to the film. The film is 2 hours 23 minutes long which makes it too lengthy. There is lack of common sense at many points in the script.

Performances: Farhan Akhtar and Arjun Rampal are seasoned actors and so it is obvious we expected a great performance from them. But the actors are not up to the mark this time unlike the prequel. Shraddha Kapoor as Jiah has given a decent performance. The part which portrays her stage fear and under confidence as performer has been handled nicely by the actress. Prachi Desai has a very small to role and plays it well. Purab Kohli and Shashank Arora play their part well.

Technical Aspects: Directed Shujat Saudagar has done a disappointing work with his maiden work. He handles the script in a very immature manner and falters at many places. The screenplay and script both are loosely written.

The most disappointing aspect of Rock On 2 is music. Shankar Ehsaan Loy have given a dismal music to this film that thrives on music itself. There is absolutely no comparisons possible with the prequel which had very touching music.

The Last Word: Rock On 2 is very much avoidable unless you follow rock band music too blindly. There is no high point in the film and we hope there will be no part 3.
