Sonakshi Sinha Responds to Criticism of Her Interfaith Marriage, Emphasizes ‘Love Is Universal Religion’

Sonakshi Sinha and Zaheer Iqbal recently celebrated their union in a beautiful and simple ceremony in Mumbai. However, their inter-faith marriage faced opposition from hardcore Hindu activists, who accused the actress of promoting “love jihad” and attempting to “Islamify” India. These activists from Bihar even went as far as threatening Sonakshi to stay away from the state. While the couple chose to remain silent amidst the backlash, an artist took a stand by creating a poignant caricature that depicted the concept of love being a universal religion.

Sonakshi was quick to appreciate the sentiment and commented on the post, expressing her agreement and gratitude. Amidst the controversy surrounding their marriage, posters were plastered across Patna by the Hindu Shivbhavani Sena, explicitly stating that Sonakshi Sinha would not be allowed to enter Bihar. The group also targeted Shatrughan Sinha, Sonakshi’s father, demanding that he change the names of his Mumbai residence, “Ramayana,” and his sons, Luv and Kush, claiming that these names disrespected Hinduism. Shatrughan Sinha defended his daughter’s choices, asserting that her marriage was a personal decision and that no one had the right to interfere or pass judgment.

He urged the protestors to focus on more meaningful endeavors and make a positive impact with their lives. Sonakshi Sinha and Zaheer Iqbal’s wedding took place on June 23 in a registered ceremony, followed by a grand star-studded reception in Mumbai. Despite the challenges and criticisms they have faced, the couple remains committed to their love and the bond they share, embracing the concept that love knows no boundaries and transcends all religions. As they embark on this new chapter of their lives, they hope to inspire others to embrace love and acceptance in a diverse and multicultural society.
