The Shaukeens Movie Review

shaukeens reviews

This Friday, one of the movies hitting the theatres include The Shaukeens, which is a comedy movie directed by the talented filmmaker Abhishek Sharma. The main leads of the movie include Annu Kapoor, Anupam Kher and Piyush Mishra along with Lisa Haydon and a cameo of Akshay Kumar. It is basically a remake of Basu Chatterjee’s 1982 Shaukeen starring Ashok Kumar, AK Hangal, Utpal Dutt and Rati Agnihotri. The music comes from various people including Yo Yo Honey Singh, Hard Kaur, Vikram Nagi, etc. It is produced under the banner – Cape of Good Films, with several producers including Akshay Kumar as well. The movie is partly made in Mauritius while the rest of the shooting is carried out in India in Bombay and Goa.

Now, let’s dig deep into its script. As discussed, it is a remake of 1982 Shaukeen, hence the story of The Shuakeens is somewhere very much close to the original ones with some smaller changes in it. The story revolves around three lustful oldies that roll out a plan for an excursion. They then meet a driver who suggests Goa as their location as here his girlfriend works in a bar as singer cum dancer. These old men then meet this woman and soon go crazy about her. They leave no stone unturned to impress this person with funny stunts and stuff, which is worth watching in this movie. This plot is similar to the original one, which is being copied with some modern changes as per the time and age.

The director Abhishek Sharma in his movie The Shaukeens is seen embarking with a couple of changes in characterization and screenplay just to make it compatible to the current generation of audience. The role of oldies are being played by Annu Kapoor, Piyush Mishra and Anupam Kher, while the bar dancer cum singer is Lisa Haydon called Ahana. The role of Akshay Kumar as an alcoholic star who happens to be arrogant, while the lady Ahana is simply his ardent fan, who promises the trio oldies to give anything if they fulfil her wish to bring her across Akshay Kumar. The story then revolves around the oldies that leave no stone unturned to make her dream come true to meet their lustful wishes at the end. Will they be able to accomplish this dream of the lady and meet their end goal, would be interesting to catch up.

Now, let’s talk about performance. The three Shaukeens – played by the Annu Kapur, Anupam Kher and Piyush Mishra are simply awesome to catch considering their funny and comic characters. All the trio oldie roles played by these veteran actors were awesome, most of the time, you would simply fall down laughing over your seats to the jokes and puns cracked by Annu Kapoor and others. They all were simply incredible in terms of playing lustful old men who remain frustrated without meeting their base desires back home and thus come out in the search for quenching their carnal desires outside. Lisa Haydon too had a cool performance, though most of the times; the oldies simply overshadowed the woman with their incredible comic performances.

Akshay has a cameo in the movie, which he has justified perfectly playing the character of an arrogant and alcoholic star in the film. Talking about the photography, Chaudhary Amalendu was smart enough in handling the camera work for The Shaukeens catching cool and exotic locations of Mauritius and other places in India. The music from Yo Yo Honey Singh and others seemed trendy and peppy one to a great extent. The songs released earlier are already at the top over the chartbuster list. Overall, the music was okay and can impress the audience with this old time subject being packaged in a new style. Editing and other technical aspects of The Shaukeens too seemed par, which can garner positive reviews from the critics and audience.

The Shaukeens Review – Last Word

The trailer of the movie has garnered a good response thus creating inquisitiveness among the fans of Akshay Kumar and audience in general. According to the filmmakers, the extended special appearance of various Bollywood superstar including Akshay Kumar and Abhishek Bachchan is the main punch of the movie, which can attract a wide range of audience to the film. With U/A certificate, it would be interesting to see whether the movie- The Shaukeens will be able to make the same history, which its original movie Shaukeen has made in 1982 turning out a big hit over the box office. Considering the incredible performance of the oldies, trendy music and other positive reviews a rating of 3.5 would suffice.
